Well, you need to be prepared. That’s my motto. You need to be prepared to act quickly if your site is hacked or your provider accidentally deletes your site or there is a server failure causing you site’s info to be lost.
Having an up-to-date backup of your site will give you peace of mind and help you sleep at night.
So how do you go about backing up your site? Well, if you had a site designed and developed by a third party like Valentine Media they should have offered some form of security back-up package. We offer these packages to all of our clients.
If you don’t have a backup plan with your developer, there are other options. You can manually backup your entire site by using an FTP program like Filezilla, but the downside is that it can take a while downloading the entire site and you have to remember to back it up frequently. Google Calendar is a great tool to set reminders for you.
If you have access to your cPanel from your host there are sometimes options that will allow you to backup your site through that.
If you’re looking for a more automated way, there are services such as BackupBuddy or Backup Machine.
So, if you have a website currently active, you need to back it up right now. You can never predict when an error or hack might occur, so make sure you can get your site back up ASAP.
