It’s a new year and just like other fields like fashion, graphic design, and photography, web design changes with the times. But unlike those other fields, web design is driven mostly by technology which is constantly changing and improving. Last year we saw Google officially adopt responsive design as a requirement for their SEO (search engine optimization) algorithm. So let’s dive right into the web design trends for 2016.
Cinemagraphs
Cinemagraphs have been around for a few years now. They are considered “live photos” which are photos with small subtle motion and have been compared to the photographs in the Harry Potter movie series.
Material Design
Google’s Material Design looks to come forth very much like the bootstrap design did a few years ago. It is the basis of UI design and reflects the move toward mobile design as the priority of web access.
Illustration
Illustration as opposed to photographs are taking a heavier approach in web design. This allows the owner of the site to present themselves in a more personal and connected way. Here is an example of illustration being used in a unique and engaging way: www.pleasecomejoin.us
Hero Images
Hero images are large high quality images that appear above the fold on a website. Thanks to compression technology and faster internet speeds, hero images won’t slow down your site’s loading time.
Responsive Design
Continuing the trend of mobile, responsive design allows the visitor to view your website on any device (mobile or desktop). Responsive design reduces and rearranges elements so that the viewer is not left out of valuable information due to the site not viewing properly on their phone or mobile device.
