Did you know that people browse the internet more on their mobile devices than they do on their desktop computers? It’s true, and Google knows this. In fact, Google has announced that on April 21, 2015, they will change their algorithms for how searches are performed and if your website is not mobile friendly, you’ll be left behind. This has been dubbed by many as “Mobilgeddon”. So what does this mean for you? Rumor has it that your website will be penalized for not being mobile friendly, and who wants to lose their search result rankings?
So how do you know if your website is prepared for Mobilgeddon?
Well, when you had it built, did you make sure you had a separate mobile site or a responsive design? If not, you may need to look into updating soon. Creating separate mobile sites can be costly, it’s best to have your site built with a responsive design from the beginning. Two weeks ago we posted a blog post and video explaining what responsive design is. If you have a few minutes I suggest taking the time and check it out.
If you’re curious to know if your site will survive Mobilgeddon, Google has set up a test page. Make sure that your company’s website is mobile friendly by running the quick test here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/
